Dictynidae are the meshweb weavers. These spiders possess a cribellum near the spinnerets. This structure produces many strands of very fine silk, which the spider then “combs” with the calamistrum, a structure on the 4th pair of legs. Dictynids are small (3 to 5 mm) spiders that make irregular webs in vegetation, where they wait for prey. Prey is wrapped with the special silk produced by the cribellum. Females guard egg sacs.
